Our Mission

Our mission is to engage a variety of stakeholders and partners to create an economically viable pathway to recycle end-of-life maritime plastics, improve waste management, contribute to the circular economy, and reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions related to virgin plastic production.

Our Vision & Values

Net Your Problem energizes coastal communities, recyclers, manufacturers and brands to contribute to the blue and circular economies by recycling end of life maritime plastics. We've enjoyed forming unlikely partnerships and expanding our programs geographically to help prevent marine pollution and champion the social, economic and environmental benefits of recycling.

In the News

Commercial fisheries entities are collaborating with a rising star in plastics recycling, Net Your Problem..

National Fisherman

Net Your Problem is making the fishing industry greener one net at a time.

National Fisherman

Baker says that in the fishing community, word of mouth is powerful – somebody says they’ve caught fifty fish in a net, and in a few hours, everyone knows. She says she hopes that her message around net recycling spreads the same way.

Nicole Baker

Executive Director
nicole@netyourproblem.com

She is a former North Pacific groundfish fisheries observer (2010-2015) who became actively involved in looking for a way to recycle fishing nets from Unalaska. Her interest in this topic was inspired by Parley for the Oceans collaboration with Adidas to make a sneaker out of confiscated fishing nets and since 2015 has been looking for fishermen with nets to get rid of, and for recyclers who will take nets. Nicole works full time for Net Your Problem. Nicole has lived on multiple islands and knows the limited options these types of communities have for waste disposal.

Caitlin "Caity" Townsend

Massachusetts Representative
caitlin@netyourproblem.com

She grew up lobstering out of Provincetown on the very tip of Cape Cod, alongside her father who is a generational commercial fisherman. From a young age, Caitlin has had a passion for the fishing industry and finding ways to connect the industry with environmentalism and science. She graduated Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2021 and immediately found intense passion in her hometown, leading her to work alongside local fishers collecting ghost lobster gear, and walking along Cape Cod’s beaches collecting marine debris. She is a waitress and bartender and is excited about creating a program for end-of-life fishing gear in Massachusetts, ultimately giving back to the fishery that raised her and continues to support her. Feel free to contact Caitlin if you are interested in recycling maritime plastics in Mass.

Luke Kellet

Maine Representative
luke@netyourproblem.com

Luke Kellett is passionate about all things fish and shellfish. He grew up fishing obsessively and running his own crab skiff on the Chesapeake Bay, as well as helping his family build and maintain their marine debris-collecting “trash wheels.” After graduating from Allegheny College, he moved to Midcoast Maine to work on an oyster farm. He currently spends most of the year working as a sternman on a lobster boat and diving for oysters. He also travels to Bristol Bay, Alaska, to participate in the sockeye salmon drift net fishery. When not fishing, he enjoys surfing, mountain biking, and thinking about fishing. He is excited to help expand NYP’s mission of recycling end-of-life maritime plastics along the Maine Coast.
